The Thirsty Gator Oyster Pub was opened on June 26, 1986 by Tim and Lynn Groves. Lynn comes from a family of bar owners. Her grandparents immigrated from Hungary and Spain, where they opened and operated a bar in Toms River, New Jersey. Then, Lynn’s mom, Marie, owned Jerry’s Pub in Orlando for over forty years and just recently sold it at an impressive age of 87. Lynn was born in New Jersey, where she moved to Florida at age 12. Tim Groves was born in Sumter, South Carolina, where he traveled around the south because his father was in the military. Tim ended up at the University of Florida on a football scholarship. This is how the Thirsty Gator was built! The two have owned and operated The Thirsty Gator for 37 years now. They have built a lifetime community of wonderful friends and family, and they have had some of the same staff members for the past 20-30 years. The Thirsty Gator is known for fresh oysters and shrimp, as well as traditional American cuisine available for dine-in or carry-out.
